I have been using Freemind tool extensively for my current project at work. Freemind is basically an open source mind mapping tool. It enables an engineer (or any designer in general) to visually co-relate a number of complicated concepts. This has been of invaluable help to me since my current project spans lots of different and diverse components and I am suppose to track and make sure everything continues to work in sync without any problem.

Hello Spring

Looks like winter is almost over now with warmer temperatures setting in. I was really looking forward to this period so that I could utilize our patio which we haven't being using because of the winter.

So it's saturday today, Tanu has been cooking since morning and I have cleaning our place. We have some friends coming in for dinner. It will be fun with food, drinks and poker or maybe a movie.

The Intelligent Asset Allocator

Have been reading The Intelligent Asset Allocator . An awesome book by William Bernstein which uses lots of math to explain some of the concepts of investing. The addition to gaining lots of finance knowledge I have brushed up lots of the concepts pertianing to probability and statistics. This is the first time I could clearly understand the practical applications for different distribution functions, correlation, covariance, Bayes theorm etc.

I have come to the realization that Index funds are the best investment vehicle for passive investors (like me) rather than actively managed funds (which have high maintainance fees). This book mathematical explains the difference.

Long weekend.....

Have been indoors most of this weekend, except Saturday nite when Tanu and I met some of our friends and played some poker. Tanu seems to be getting ready bored of it and honestly I think even I am losing interest in it. I would rather read a book or may be cook together with friends rather than playing the game. But I have to admit it is a very good strategy game.

Today I have a holiday but unfortunately Tanu has to work. I have been cooking most of the day, watched a movie "assassination of jesse james" (was a complete waste of time), listening to music since morning and I plan to continue reading a book now....

First Anniversary

Tanu and me had being to Clemson to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We stayed in a lake side hotel and had a great time together.
