Aamhi Marathi

This Friday Tanu and me watched 21. We really loved it since the story revolved around Black Jack. Saturday morning we went on a hike in Chapel Hill with folks from Sierra Club and it was great fun. We got to meet lots of new people and we plan to hike again with those folks.

However the highlight of this weekend was a Marathi play that we watched in Durham. We went to the play directly from our hike with all our muddy clothes. It was bit embarrassing since almost everyone else was well dressed, but we weren't bothered much. The play was called "Khoon Kaarun Pahava". It was based on some English novel but was very well executed. This was the first Marathi play that I watched in the US. The last play that I had watched was in India with my parents and just before coming to the US for graduate studies.

Weekend

Was a good weekend. Went to Abhinva's place for dinner on Friday nite. Saturday was mostly spent in shopping and then casino nite at Netapp. The casino nite was the highlight of the weekend with Tanu and me playing poker all the time. Also I won the pot on the table that we were playing (even though Tanu was playing really well), so was a good feeling....Watched a movie "American Gangster" later last nite....Today morning got some yard work done....Then cooked in the afternoon...and we now plan to go the lake for an evening walk...

Inspirational: The last lecture

Here are some of the best quotes from the lecture

We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.

I probably got more from that dream and not accomplishing it than I got from any of the ones that I did accomplish

When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody’s bothering to tell you anymore, that’s a very bad place to be. Your critics are your ones telling you they still love you and care.

Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.

The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough.

Somewhere along the way there’s got to be some aspect of what lets you get to achieve your dreams. First one is the role of parents, mentors, and students.

I have a theory that people who come from large families are better people because they’ve just had to learn to get along.

Loyalty is a two way street.

You can’t get there alone. People have to help you and I do believe in karma. I believe in paybacks. You get people to help you by telling the truth. Being earnest.

Be good at something, it makes you valuable.

Find the best in everybody. Just keep waiting no matter how long it takes. No one is all evil. Everybody has a good side, just keep waiting, it will come out.

Be prepared. Luck is truly where preparation meets opportunity.

It’s not about how to achieve your dreams. It’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you.

Leading your life the right way is never just about you, it’s about you and the people around you.

Understanding Asset Allocation

Have started reading Understanding Asset Allocation by Victor Canto. Seems quite good, atleast after completing the first two chapters. I hope the rest of the book is good as well since I haven't heard rave reviews for it.
