Kleenex = Pocket tissues
Have started reading the book 22 Immutable laws of branding, a book which highlights different aspects of a brand. I was really struck by an example on the Kleenex brand, the efforts behind which got rid of handkerchief concept from the US with the help of the tag line "Do not carry cold in your pockets". Can't believe the way people come up with ideas to make money, by selling pocket tissues, bottled water etc. The book explains how major brands in the US created markets even when there wasn't any need for them. Sometimes I think isn't this simply a waste of precious resources but this cycle also creates new jobs and economic activity.
